The Lord Has Not Forgotten Us

Pictured are four women standing under a tree. All are wearing red Gospel Joy t-shirts with bright African fabric skirts and head wraps.

Earlier this year, our trainers in Benin learned of a small, isolated village tucked far from the nearest town. It is a place that many would overlook. There is no school, no well, no electricity, no toilets, and the rocky soil makes farming difficult. By every earthly measure, it is a poor village.

Yet thirty years ago, a missionary faithfully planted a church there.

When our trainers first visited the village, they expected to find a struggling congregation. Instead, they found a church that was alive. Week after week, the believers gathered beneath a simple open-air shelter to worship, pray, and encourage one another. For three decades, they had remained faithful, even in their isolation.

After meeting with the pastors, our trainers returned a few months later to lead a two-day Audio Bible Study Leader Training. Even a heavy rainstorm could not dampen the joy of those who gathered. Throughout the training, the pastors kept saying, "The Lord has not forgotten us! We are simple farmers living in this village, and yet the Lord has not forgotten us."

Their words reminded us of a beautiful truth. God sees those the world often overlooks. He knows every village, every church, and every believer who faithfully follows Him.

Today, that congregation is using Gospel Joy's audio Bible studies to grow in their understanding of Scripture and to deepen their faith. What an incredible privilege it is to partner with local churches so that believers—even in the most remote places—can continue to encounter God's Word.

We praise God that He never forgets His people.
